Health Care On Phi Phi Don
There are numerous pharmacies scattered around the island, a few small clinics to deal with minor injuries and one hospital. The islands hospital is only capable to deal with minor issues and for anything major the hospital will transfer you to Phuket via Speedboat where they have more facilities. We recommend taking out travel insurance beforehand as medical bills are not cheap! Sunburn and Sunstroke are often the most common health issues so be careful, be sure to drink plenty of water and wear stron sun creams. Banking, ATM's and Currency Exchange
On Phi Phi Don island there is no shortage of ATM's they are all over the island, and accept Mastercard, Maestrocard and Visa be aware though if you are using a card from outside of Thailand they will only dispense in denominations of 1000 THB and there will be a 200 THB charge for using their ATM. There are two main banks on the island open Monday-Friday and you can withdraw money in branch free of charge. There are also numerous currency exchange booths and a western union outside of the main bank.
Thai Visa's
For the majority of visitors to Thailand you will be eligible for a visa exemption or visa on arrival which will last for no more than 30 days for tourism purposes only there are currently 52 countries which are eligible for this scheme please check with you local authority to check if you nationality is included with this, Residents of Korea, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Chile are eligible for a 90 day exemption. If you plan to stay longer than this time period we suggest applying for a 60 day TR class visa in your home country before traveling. All visa mentioned can be extended for an extar 30 days any any Thai immigration office for the cost of 1900 THB.
Police
There is a tourist police office located on Phi Phi Don not far from Tonsai pier in. There is usually a person who speaks English but translators can be found if reqired.
International Airports
The two closest airport to Koh Phi Phi are Phuket and Krabi international airports, There is no airport on Koh Phi Phi and the islands can only be accesed by accessed by ferry boat. Phuket airport is approximately one hours drive away from Rassada pier and two hours travel time by ferry, whilst Krabi airport is approximately thirty minutes away from Klongjilad pier and one and a half hours travel time by ferry. Electricity
The electricity in Thailand is 220 volts, 50 cycles/sec, The Thai power outlets can accept European, American and occasionally United Kingdom socket types. Although if you are in need of an adapter the can be picked up from street vendors or are available for purchase from almost all 7-11 stores. Electricity on Koh Phi phi is provided from Krabi by under-sea cables so a blackout can happen from time to time during bad weather!
Postal Services
There is one local post office down a side street in the centre of town very close to the market area, the international rate are relatively cheap, although being an island it can take a little longer to get your post to its final destination. We would suggest to use the postal services in Krabi or Phuket if it is an important package or needs to be at its destination slightly quicker.
Internet Access and International Calls
On Koh Phi Phi Don there are multiple internet cafe's which charge around two THB per minute for high speed internet access, and most hotels have a telephone you can use to make an international call, alternatively a 'Tourist Sim Card' can be picked up for around three hundred THB providing you with unlimeted calls and internet use for seven days.
Television
Satellite television is available throughout the island, with the majority of hotels offering TV's in the rooms. A select few of the bars will show the popular sporting events, there are only a handful of television channels not spoken in Thai.
Mobile Phones and Cameras
On Koh Phi Phi Don there is a chain of electronics stores called 'P-Mobile' they sell most handsets of mobile, Go-Pro cameras and accessories, they are also able to provide fixes for electronic items cameras, computers, tablets and phones, at a small price. The is a small locally run Kodak shop near to Tonsai pier who develop and print photographs such as a passport photos.
